The UP Sigma Beta Sorority proudly joined the 40th International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) at The Boardwalk, Subic Freeport Zone last September 20, 2025.
This year’s Philippine ICC carried the global theme “Clean Seas Against the Climate Crisis: We are the Solution” (Tayo ang Solusyon), with a strong call for collective community action under the hashtag #SeaTheChange. The event highlighted the urgent need to address marine pollution as part of the broader fight against climate change.
Armed with only their gloves, tongs, and an unwavering spirit of service, the UP Sigma Beta sisters, working alongside thousands of volunteers across the Philippines, fanned out along the coastline, carefully collecting plastic bottles, straws, food wrappers, discarded fishing gear, and other debris washed ashore. Every sack of trash they filled was a symbol of their commitment to restoring the health of the oceans and protecting the communities that depend on them.
The Sorority was represented by ΣΒ alumnae Joan Junca, Shealah Bismark, Nitz Arias, Mae Del Rosario, and Noemie Cabaies, together with ΣΒ resident sisters Minju Viajar, Dani Luteria, Eli Llaneta, and Jannel Nabong. Their teamwork and solidarity showed how service is not only a duty but also a bond that strengthens sisterhood.
The UP Sigma Beta Sorority Alumnae Association Inc. (UPSBSAAI) proudly served as one of the official community partners of the ICC Subic leg, together with other corporate and civic groups. Special thanks go to ΣΒ sisters Hazel Helmuth (UPLB), Malu Co, and Mae Del Rosario (UPD) for their support.
As the sisters worked side by side with fellow volunteers, they lived out the call of “Tayo ang Solusyon (We are the Solution)”—proving that every individual effort contributes to a larger movement.
Through service and solidarity, the UP Sigma Beta Sorority continues to champion causes that matter—from the coastlines of Subic to the communities we call home. Together, we rise for cleaner seas, a healthier planet, and a future worth passing on.
