The Lavender Corner: An Academic Support Space for Iskolars

The Lavender Corner, a dedicated academic support space for Iskolars, was officially launched on 19 May 2026 at The Third Space in Kamia Residence Hall, UP Diliman. Led by the U.P. Sigma Beta Sorority Diliman Alumnae Association, the project was made possible through a meaningful partnership with the Office of Student Projects and Activities (OSPA) and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (OVCSA).

Created to uplift students’ academic well‑being, the Lavender Corner offers a warm, inclusive environment where Iskolars can study, collaborate, and recharge. The space provides free use of computers, free printing services, and complimentary coffee, ensuring students have access to essential tools without financial burden. The project was further strengthened by the donation of four new monitors, three printers, and a steady supply of coffee, enhancing the space’s functionality and comfort. Nestled within The Third Space, the Lavender Corner enriches Kamia Residence Hall’s role as a vibrant hub for learning and community.

The project reflects the power of collaboration between student organizations and university offices. Through OSPA and OVCSA, and with the support of Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Prof. Carlo De Pano, the Lavender Corner becomes a sustainable resource that strengthens the university’s commitment to student welfare.

The Sigma Beta Sorority alumnae from U.P. Diliman played a central role in bringing this initiative to life. The organization extends heartfelt gratitude to its generous supporters: Sis Bessie Barua‑Callejo, Sis Mai Barua‑Yap, Sis Nene Layson, Sis Tess Payongayong, and Sis Sharon Pothera. Their support ensures that the Lavender Corner stands not only as a functional study space but also as a testament to the sorority’s enduring legacy of service and sisterhood.

With its doors now open, the Lavender Corner invites Iskolars to learn, connect, and thrive in a space built especially for them—a lasting promise of support, community, and care.
